Personal Injury Award of $1.2 Million

MF, MM and EF were two brothers and a sister who were standing by their bicycles on Kelly (East River) Drive in Philadelphia, near a heavy metal gate that the City used to block off motor vehicles from this portion of the drive for the benefit of bicyclists and joggers. When a motorist approaching this gate crashed into it, it caused the gate to swing into our clients. This resulted in several broken bones and some internal organ contusions to MF and EM. Although the driver had only modest insurance, our injury attorneys were able to show the City of Philadelphia to be negligent for failing to provide sufficient notice to motorists on the road as they approached this gate to warn them of the closure of the road. Medical Malpractice Award of $1.1 Million

MS was a 70 year old woman who underwent femoral bypass surgery to bypass clogged arteries in order to increase circulation to her legs and feet. Although the doctor/surgeon properly performed the surgery, a known risk of such surgery — blockage to the repaired artery — occurred shortly after M.S. was released from the recovery room at the hospital. While this complication requires prompt emergency surgery to correct it, this corrective surgery did not occur for several hours and this delay resulted in MS’s death. ER, a 6 year old boy, was riding his bicycle when it went over a large crack in the sidewalk, causing ER to be thrown from his bicycle onto the sidewalk. ER’s mother took him to the hospital, where he was treated and released for a small forehead contusion. NK was an 18 year old passenger in a stolen car. The driver had attempted to flee from a police stop. When the stolen vehicle came to a stop, NK ran from the vehicle and was chased by the police. Although NK eventually stopped running and surrendered to the police without a struggle, a police officer hit him in the head with a flashlight fracturing his skull. The police officer and his partner claimed that NK had not been assaulted but, instead NK had been injured when he fell while fleeing. Defective Product Award of $450,000

BW was a sixty five year old male who suffered a severe compound fracture of his leg when a hunting tree stand he was constructing collapsed while attempting to attach a stabilizer bar to the tree. The manufacturer failed to provide a way to attach the bar without climbing partially up the ladder to reach a predrilled hole where the bar was to be screwed into the ladder. Nor did the manufacturer warn not to climb the stand at this point in the construction as the stand would not be stable enough.
