If you or a family member take your
car into New Jersey, you can be injured by the fault of another driver and be
unable to recover compensation. New
Jersey law automatically takes away from owners and family members the right to
recover for injuries caused by other drivers within the State of New Jersey. This is true even if in Pennsylvania you
elected and paid for a “Full Tort” policy.
New Jersey statute states that unless you specifically, in writing, elect the
New Jersey version of “Full Tort”, you are automatically given the New Jersey
version of “limited tort” when your vehicle enters the State of New Jersey. Pennsylvania drivers beware when you drive
in New Jersey. The law is written to
prevent you from being able to sue New Jersey drivers who injure you.
