Buying Auto Insurance to Benefit You , Not Insurance Companies
- Buy “Full Tort”, not “Limited Tort” coverage. This has nothing to do with Full Coverage or being “Fully Covered”. If you buy a “Limited Tort” policy, you are giving up the right for yourself and every relative who lives with you to sue for injuries unless your injuries are of the most serious nature. “Full Tort” protects you and your right to sue if injured in an accident.
- Buy both Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage. These coverages protect you if the individual who injures you has no insurance or only has a limited amount of insurance. These coverages provide a place for you to recover money under such situations.
NEVER reduce these coverages to less than the amount of coverage you provide to persons you might injure. Why would you provide more coverage for a stranger than you would for yourself and your family?
Be aware that most insurance companies will push you to buy “Limited Tort” policies and policies that do not contain Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage. They will tempt you with less expensive policies. But in the end, it is your loss and their gain, should you be injured in an accident because you will not be compensated for your injury.
